In collaboration with Emmylou Smith, we present the May Day 2026 LMBP sketchbook!
For this year's May Day release, Emmylou's goal was to create a cover that carried movement and a feel for thoughtful introspection. She wanted this spring cover to inspire artists to embrace spring's symbolism of renewal and the celebration of life and creation.
Cover artwork is printed on 100% cotton fabric that has been individually backed by-hand using rice paper, wheat paste, and PVA. The endpage inscription has been typed using a 1960s Smith Corona Super Sterling manual typewriter.
Each sketchbook is filled with 32 sheets (64 pages) of Arches 140 lb watercolor paper in natural white. Seven are cold press, three are hot press. 5.5" wide x ~4" tall
Emmylou Smith is a US-based illustrator and fine artist with a BFA and MA in Illustration. After teaching as an adjunct art instructor and working as an art coordinator, she transitioned from digital media to exhibiting traditional watercolor paintings in group shows around the world. She developed a practice with an aim to revive history for the modern eye inspired by nature, history, mythology and folklore. Each painting serves as a tribute to the past, ensuring that even as time marches on, these stories remain alive.
